In the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 15,31) there is a lovely reference to the way in which the community at Antioch received a letter from the Apostles and elders of the Church, which concerned certain concrete questions about the style of Christian life. We are told that they welcomed it as “a word of encouragement”.
